The background

The problem of cancer is one of the most important health challenges the Polish healthcare system is facing currently. Every year, 160 000 people in Poland suffer from cancer and 100 000 dies because of it. Every day, 300 people in Poland are diagnosed with cancer, and 220 lose their lives as a result of this disease. This is primarily a result of low detectability, but also a 5-10% weaker results of treatment compared to the EU average. It is estimated, that in the next 20 years, the incidence of cancer may more than double. This shows that Poland must take all possible steps to tackle this challenge.

The National Oncological Strategy, as a new tool in the fight against cancer, will show the directions of changes in the organization of the oncological treatment system. The goal of the strategy is also a broad discussion about what else can be done in the area of cancer prevention.
